When should you begin preparing for the 11 Plus?

Although students in Years 4 and 5 are also accepted, our pupils typically start preparing for the 11 Plus at the beginning of Year 3. Pupils acquire a comprehensive, well-rounded, and high-quality education, preparing them for life at the grammar school when they pass the 11 Plus exam.

What is taught?

We teach Maths, English and Verbal Reasoning, being completely up to date with the new Essex CSSE examinations and preparing students thoroughly. We give reading lists so students know exactly what books they can be reading for preparation.

English

Grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, composition, and understanding are all taught in English classes. Literary devices are frequently used.

Mathematics

The math exam is significantly above what is taught in elementary school. Regardless of a student’s aptitude, they must be taught the appropriate curriculum.

A lot of experience

Pupils practise a great deal and gain experience working at the same pace as their peers.

Verbal Reasoning

Word and numeric puzzles constitute verbal reasoning exercises. In order to prepare them for the test and give them lots of practice time, we support and encourage our students to think creatively.

Exam Techniques

The 11 Plus is a test that is competitive. Exam methods, such as working quickly, going to the higher mark questions first, and skipping questions when necessary, are taught starting in Year 4. When our students accomplish these objectives, we continuously applaud their accomplishments.

How are lessons imparted to students?

Since the 11 Plus is a pen and paper exam, all lessons are tutor-led, and pupils receive the same instruction. The 11 Plus tutor leads instruction from the front of the room before moving around the classroom to assist each student as needed. Teachers and mentors closely monitor student work and provide prompt assistance to students as needed.

Students work in groups of four adults to one.

Students learn inference in English through a progressive programme that involves them becoming “detectives” who gather evidence from the text with highlighters. Playing perfect answer games helps kids concentrate and answer questions bravely. People who go above and beyond what is expected of them succeed in life. Every week, we give out awards to any student who completes tasks for which they were not requested. Every classroom has super star boards with the names of our children on them on a regular basis.
